Troubleshooting Video Card Issues from Be Your Own IT on Vimeo.
Generally there is only two items involved, your video card itself and the monitor, normally I tell you to check the physical but there isn’t a heck of a lot. Check that it’s not your monitor, make sure it’s connected correctly the cable is not damages and of course make sure the monitor is on.
There isn’t much you can physically check for on the video card itself unless maybe you see burn marks.
The first step I would do is to right click anywhere on the computers desktop and choose properties. Then choose the settings tab. This will show you a lot. Make sure it is detecting your video card, and that the resolution maybe got changed. Sometimes that happens you need only change it back
Under the advanced tab, just check and make sure it shows the correct hardware.
Next I usually download the latest display driver and download it from the manufacturer’s website. Make sure you always have the latest video drivers installed.
If that doesn’t work you can try reinstalling the video adapter by right clicking on my computer choosing properties then device manager and then looking at the display adapters tab. Make sure the card doesn’t indicate any errors here and you can always try removing it by highlighting it by clicking on it with your mouse and then pressing the delete button on your keyboard. Then reboot the PC and see what happens
If your having other kinds of performance issues like for example you bought a new game or something and your video card isn’t cutting it check your system requirements, there may be nothing wrong at all you might just need an upgrade.
