This is a great troubleshooting exercise to fix various hardware issues in windows.
To uninstall the device you need only to right click on my computer, choose properties, and then device manager.
This will show you all the devices installed in your computer. So if you were having troubles with your sound card you need to choose sound cards and hit the little plus sign next to the device to expand the category.
To remove it you just need to select the device by clicking on it once and hitting the delete button on your hard drive.

To reinstall you can either reboot the PC or locate the little icon that looks like a computer and a magnifying glass to scan for new hardware changes to redetect the device.
