This small tool exposes a lot of issues and is good for both home users and business. Designed to help you troubleshoot your computer the Microsoft Configuration Utility is a great way to both increase performance and fix various issues. It can also be used to make sure you computer boots faster and locks up less.
It is available for all versions of windows with some work. (most of them are included)

To get going you just need to click on your computers start button and choosing run and then typing “msconfig”.
The main tab you will want to look at is the start up tab. This will show you a list of everything that starts up when you turn on your computer. You can usually see most of their icons in the lower right hand corner of your screen by the clock.
Now that you are looking at this you can begin troubleshooting your computers problem. You can stop an item from stating up simply by unchecking it. If your troubleshooting an issue I would recommend doing this one at a time so you will know which one actually fixed it. If you start by turning a bunch of them off then you wont know what actually fixed it.
If this is just an issue of speeding things up a little, you can uncheck a bunch of them at once. Really the only ones you always want to avoid are anti-virus programs, and anything associated with hard ware like printers, external hard drives, scanners and such.
Make sure to grab a pad and pen so you can better track what you have done.
Typically even a long list here isn’t going to effect how your computer runs, but if your system is on the borderline with things like RAM it can really make things run a lot smoother.
You will need to reboot to see how things change and watch the video for more info.
