AVG from Be Your Own IT on Vimeo.
There are many different anti-virus programs out there and there are a lot of different opinions on them. Norton Anti-Virus, Mcafee and others are pretty popular however I recommend AVG Anti-virus since it’s free and awesome. It doesn’t bog your computer down as much as other software does when scanning for virus’s and while it runs in the background your hardly notice it.
Once you download the anti-virus program, you need to install it. Usually I recommend installing it from safe mode first.
You can enter safe mode by rebooting your computer, and while it turns on start tapping f8 on your computers keyboard until you get the option to enter safe mode. Then double click on the install file and away you go.
The file is about 35MB so it may take a little bit to download so be patient.
Walkthrough the install by hitting next and accept, you can leave all the settings at default.
The program is set up to scan your hard drive each and every day for a variety of spyware and virus programs. It also automatically downloads new virus definitions whenever they become available.
Once it is installed run a full system scan and heal all infected files (in many cases I recommend deleting it) Typically scanning from safe mode seems to work a lot better since some viruses will infect the program as you install it rendering it useless anyway. If you can’t get into safe mode or whatever, scanning from windows should be fine as well.
